Transits - Predictive Astrology
Transits track the continuous movement of planets in the sky as they interact with a natal chart, primarily measuring external events, environmental shifts, and the timing of life's unfolding circumstances.
"If your natal chart is the landscape of your life, Transits are the dynamic weather conditions passing over it. While the mountain (your chart) remains stationary, transits determine whether it is currently sunny, storming, foggy, or experiencing a drought."
Understanding the Principles
Key Concepts and Cycles
The Outer Planets
The slow-moving planets act as the primary architects of change. Pluto forces regeneration and transformation through intensity; Neptune dissolves boundaries and invites spiritual growth or confusion; and Uranus creates sudden disruptions to awaken the individual to freedom and authenticity.
The Saturn Return
Occurring approximately every 29.5 years, this is a major rite of passage marking the entrance into true adulthood and maturity. It is a period of reality checks, increased responsibility, and the restructuring of one's life foundation.
The Uranus Opposition
Happening between ages 40 and 42, this transit marks the classic 'midlife crisis.' It is a period characterized by a strong urge to break free from restrictive routines, reclaim unlived youth, and radically alter one's life path to align with one's true self.
The Jupiter Return
Occurring every 12 years (ages 12, 24, 36, etc.), this cycle represents the renewal of hope, growth, and expansion. It marks the beginning of a new chapter of learning, optimism, and the broadening of one's horizons.
Timing and Triggers
Transits act as the clockwork of the horoscope. While a natal chart indicates 'what' can happen, transits indicate 'when.' Often, a slow-moving outer planet sets the stage for a major life theme, which is then triggered into a specific event by a fast-moving inner planet crossing a sensitive degree.
